Eligibility Criteria for MEXT Scholarship 2026 at Asia Pacific University, Japan?

You have to be an international student living outside Japan. This scholarship is exclusively for those who will come to Japan from their home country to pursue their studies. It is not meant for those already in Japan.
You must be a citizen of any country listed by MEXT. The Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology has a list of countries whose citizens can apply for this program. You need to check that your country is included on that list.
You require a good academic background from your former university. In particular, you should have had at least a minimum of a 2.30 GPA on a scale of 3.00 at your last university. This proves a good background of academic performance.
The scholarship is not available to those in active military duty, be they soldier or civilian employees.
If you have already been a recipient of a Japanese Government scholarship, you will usually not qualify to reapply. Exceptions can be made, though. You might be eligible if you have spent over three years out of the program and have acquired significant work or educational experience. Being a recipient of the Monbukagakusho Honours Scholarship for Privately-Financed International Students does not exclude you.
You are not eligible to receive this scholarship in conjunction with any other scholarship offered by the Japanese government, government-affiliated organisations, or any other sources unless formally approved for combined acceptance.
